GUINNESS WORLD RECORD
27 / 08 / 2014
On Monday 25 August, Skydive Empuriabrava hosted 85 participants from India in an attempt to set two Guinness World Records: to achieve the highest number of tandem jumps in one hour and the highest number of tandem jumps in ten hours.
This initiative is the idea of two Indian entrepreneurs; Dr Manish Gupta, president of the Chrysalis Forum, in association with business owner Padma Shri Shital Mahajan, founder of the India Phoenix Skydiving Academy, who set the challenge to beat these two Guinness World Records, and the Skydive Empuriabrava team did not hesitate to provide the resources required to take on this challenge. The initiative is the result of the great success of a Bollywood industry film that was filmed at the skydiving centre, among other locations, and which inspired these brave divers to want to visit the centre, enjoy the beauty of the Costa Brava and take on the challenge of obtaining a double Guinness World Record.
At 12.20 pm, a judge reported that a new Guinness World Record had been set by performing a total of 35 tandem jumps in one hour; the previous record was 28 jumps.
At 17.45 pm, the 85 jumpers abandoned the second attempt at the record, which was scheduled to finish at 6 pm, when it became evident that there was insufficient time to achieve the highest number of jumps in 10 hours. The jump day had started with delays due to weather conditions.
